Turf-type Tall Fescue

Turf-type tall fescue is the traditional grass used for lawns in the Piedmont and Tidewater regions of Virginia. Our sod is a blend of 85-90% turf-type tall fescue seed (usually three varieties) and 10-15% Kentucky bluegrass seed. The blending of seeds is a tool we use to aid in the harvesting of sod, and it will help your lawn "heal" should it experience the stress of moderate traffic. Turf-type tall fescue is moderately drought and shade tolerant. Although, even once established, turf-type tall fescue requires 1-1.5 inches of water (either rain or irrigation) per week and four hours of good sunlight per day to thrive. Turf-type tall fescue performs well throughout Virginia and is adapted to a wide range of soil conditions. Turf-type tall fescue will remain "green" year-round. Turf-type tall fescue can be established year-round; but remember, the optimum months for establishing it are September through May.
